In the search for the best burger in town, Linn finds it served in a magical, quaint little restaurant called The Iron Fairies in Thonglor. The wait for the burger is long, but well worth it. When you’re in Iron Fairies, you feel like you’re taken to another part of the world, most likely somewhere in Europe. The restaurant, however, is situated in Thonglor. Inside is a maze of iron clutter, little stools and tables, and peanut shells that wax the floor. The place is small, dark and blue hued, yet it is not claustrophobic and is reminiscent of a haunted house with a much homelier atmosphere. The winding, precarious looking staircase that connects the ground to the second floor and the quaint little bathroom that hides under another wooden staircase adds a finishing touch to the iron cave themed restaurant. Jazz music plays in the background. We waited quite a while for our Fat Gutz Burger, as the restaurant was busy with the Saturday night crowd. But true enough, when the burger came, it was really ‘worth the wait’, as my friend said so. A bite down that hand-sized ‘tower’ is a truly amazing experience. The buns were soft and not drenched by the moisture of the tomatoes, the meat patty was grilled to perfection, a little burnt on the outside to add a crunch, and there was just the right amount of vegetables to go with the burger. The wedges that we ordered were also very tasty. This is the best burger I’ve tasted in Bangkok, and not to mention, in a very long time. The restaurant is small, so it is wise to make reservations.
